Mohammed Awal awarded in Malta for promoting tourism in Ghana

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal has been awarded by the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation for spearheading an innovative tourism drive in Ghana and Africa.

He said tourism has the potential to overcome instability because earnings from tourism trickle down to people in the community and creates opportunities for a better future.

Vella added that when tourism is managed correctly, it is not only sustainable but also easily adaptable and flexible to specific economic and social realities.

The President indicated that tourism was the economic and social raw material and resource that was capable not only of overcoming differences amongst key players across the Mediterranean region and the world at large, but also has the potential of strength and diversity.

Muscat said tourism should be done in a way that protects both people and places and secure a positive future for destinations and local communities for generations to come.

Muscat said there were plans to establish a West African office of the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation in Ghana to promote tourism and investment between Africa and the Mediterranean.
