Huawei rewards ICT academy ambassadors

Huawei Technologies, Ghana has for the second time held the National Ambassadors Ceremony to honour some members who have played critical roles in facilitating the training of 1,500 university students under the Huawei ICT Academy.

The awardees were also recognised for working effortlessly in training the students in Huawei Professional Certification courses in ICT.

Speaking at the virtual awards ceremony, the Deputy Managing Director at Huawei Ghana, Kweku Essuman Quansah commended the award winners for their dedication towards training ICT students.

“The 800 students certified was done within the first half of the year – that is, January to June 2021 – which is an achievement worth celebrating, as currently through the good work of our ambassadors and lecturers Ghana ranks 1st in the sub-Sahara region,” Mr. Quansah sai

Mr. Quansah also lauded the University of Ghana (UG) for being the first Huawei Authorized Academy to rollout HCIA-Security as a certification course in Ghana.

He encouraged ambassadors and instructors to continue working with Huawei on the path they have chosen, to develop more talents in ICT for a better Ghana.

The Director-General for the Commission of Technical and Vocational Training, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah in his address during the ceremony lauded Huawei for making ICT education its focus.

To ensure that students are abreast with the latest technologies which are also industry-relevant, the Deputy Director also noted that Huawei has trained over 20 lecturers from various universities of Ghana in Data Communications and Data Storage, which will be officially rolled out across all its partner universities early next year.

Huawei in 2017 introduced two flagship ICT-oriented initiatives (the Huawei ICT Competition Southern Africa and the Huawei ICT Talent Training Program) in the bid to harness and develop Ghana’s ICT talents.

Huawei, through strategic partnerships with 16 top universities as authorized ICT academies in Ghana, has trained over 5,000 university students and certified 2000+ in latest ICT technologies as part of its commitment to the government of Ghana to train 10,000 Ghanaians by 2024.

This year, (i.e. January to June 2021) through the hard work of our abled instructors and ambassadors who represent Huawei at the various universities in Ghana, we have successfully trained 1,500 students and certified 800 of them in HCIA-Security which is the first of its kind in the country and HCIA-Routing and Switching.

Rationale behind the Ambassadors Awards

In 2019, Huawei introduced the Huawei Student Ambassadors Program to groom ICT talents across the various Huawei Authorized academies in Ghana, share acquired knowledge with students and assist instructors train more talents.

Through the good work of our ambassadors and lecturers, 1,500 students have been trained, 800 have been certified with new courses introduced in Ghana.
