CWSA assures to address water system challenges at Nanton

Following a Citi News report on the Nanton water system a week ago, the Community Water and Sanitation Agency in the Northern Region has pledged to visit the area to find a possible solution to the problem.

The women of Nanton complained that they prefer hand-pumped boreholes to grid-powered water systems installed across many communities due to frequent power outages.

The Agency in a Citi News interview said it will dispatch a team of engineers to visit the Nanton water system and make a recommendation for appropriate actions.

Out of a total of 21 water outlets for the community, only three are discharging water due to weakened machines forcing the residents to depend on the few hand pumps—many of which are faulty.

The women in a recent report on the water situation say they prefer the manual boreholes to the AC power systems due to the frequent power outages.

Responding to the report, the Northern Region Engineer, Gilbert Amoah Ayamga said the Nanton water system is very common across the region.

He however blamed the Nanton District Assembly for failing to notify them about the challenge facing the system since the assembly also has oversight responsibility over the system.

Ing. Gilbert Amoah Ayamga said the agency has started introducing hybrid technology into community water systems such as the installation of solar panels to power the systems alongside the use of grid power.

He admitted that power fluctuations contributed significantly to the destruction of the pumping machines and the solar could be a good intervention.
