Western North Regional Minister to launch ‘1 school child, 1 study desk’ campaign

Western North Regional Minister, Richard Joojo Obeng will on May 10, 2021, launch the “1 school child, 1 study desk” initiative aimed at providing thousands of school desks to basic schools in the Region.

The initiative will see MMDCs in the Region play a critical role in generating funds internally to support the initiative.

“When l assumed office, l moved around a couple of schools in the Region and what l saw was not the best, school children of about four sharing a desk meant for two people,” the regional minister said.

He added that “we can’t wait for central government to provide the needs of our children in school. We must take the initiative and help ourselves”.

The Akufo-Addo administration has made education a priority following the implementation of the free SHS policy in 2017.

Mr. Obeng says “the President of the land, Nana Akufo-Addo has made education a topmost priority and as his representative in this region, l must do all l can to spearhead it”.

He noted that fixing the problem will ensure access for all school-going kids.

“We must give every child an opportunity to be in school and with the lack of desks, it’s hampering that progress, and we are determined to fix it”.
