16 perish in crash at Akim Asafo

A crash between two buses at Akim Asafo on the Accra-Kumasi highway has left 16 persons dead.

According to police, the crash at around 1:30 am on Friday occurred when the driver of a Kia Granbird bus heading toward Kumasi attempted an overtake leading to head-on with another Kia Granbird bus

This led to a head-on with another Kia Granbird bus which was coming from Kumasi.

Police said the 16 fatalities from the crash died on the spot.

Several other passengers also sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Suhum Government Hospital for treatment.

The deceased persons were removed from the scene and also sent to the Suhum Government Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification and autopsy.

Police personnel from the Suhum and Bunso Kibi Police Command, the Suhum MTTD Patrol team and Akim Asafo Police were at the scene of the crash to direct traffic.

The buses involved in the crash were eventually towed from the scene to aid vehicular traffic flow.
