Sissala West Assembly disburses GHc89,000 to persons with disabilities 

The Sissala West District Assembly in the Upper West Region has disbursed an amount of GHc89,146 to some persons with disabilities in the area.

The disbursement, which is in fulfillment of the 3% allocation of the district assemblies common fund for persons with disabilities is to enable the beneficiaries to engage in productive activities to improve their living standards.

In all, 115 physically challenged persons selected from the all the 6 zones of the district, received various working tools and start-up kits, and fertilizer inputs as well as cash for livelihood empowerment.

The Sissala West District Chief Executive, Mohammed Bakor, speaking after presenting checks to the disabled persons indicated that, 85 of the beneficiaries received financial support for their businesses and education, while 10 had working tools and start-up kits.

The rest of the 20 according to him, got Fertilizer inputs and three (3) goats each.

The DCE admonished the beneficiaries to make good use of the support, saying “government is committed to ensuring better living conditions for all Ghanaians. But it is only when you use this support to transform yourselves that it will yield the desired impact”.

Bakor revealed that the assembly will pay for the veterinary services of all the animals given to the beneficiaries for the next six months.

Some of the disabled persons in an interview with Citi News lauded government for the gesture.

Bridget Wmintome, a 27-year-old hairdresser who received a hairdryer and other equipment valued GHC2,700, however, appealed to government to increase their 3% allocation to enable many of her colleagues to benefit.

“This fund has helped a lot of us in this district. As persons with disabilities, our needs are many so I want to call on the government increase the money for us”.
