Police arrest 22 suspected robbers in Kwahu

Police in the Eastern Region has made significant headway in their quest to sanitize the region in protecting lives and properties with the arrest of 22 suspected armed robbers.

The 22 suspects, including women, were picked up at their hideout at Anyiresu, a village on the banks of the Afram River in the Kwahu Afram Plains enclave, following a tip-off.

This latest arrest brings to the number 37 suspects arrested within the Kwahu Afram Plains in less than a week’s crackdown by law enforcers including operatives from the National Security Headquarters in Accra, following series of demonstrations by residents.

The police managed to retrieve 10 SB short guns, four locally manufactured pistols, 15 live BB cartridges, ten empty BB cartridges, two chainsaw machines, 32 sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, and two boxes of different restricted drugs in the raid.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer told Citi News that a suspect who exchanged fire with the police during the swoop was short in the right arm.

“On September 19th at about 11:20 am DSP Daniel Azugu in charge of police operation team arrested suspects Yakubu 34, Sulley Issah 34, Kwadwo Ekeham 18, Agbemtu Francis 47, Hilali Dari 30, Dodzi Efiavor 25, Mawutor Agbala 28, Kofi Musah 23, Mohammed Atuyie 39, Osman Sumana 28, Bone Sylvester age 34, Richard Gamor 28, Haruna Kodo 23, Issah Joseph, 26, Mukalia Alhassan 20, Lumor Apator 29, Fatawu Adams 28, Kwagise Tsotovor 48, Efia Agbale 48, Dodzi Akpatsu 25, Sanka Abdul, 30, and Bertha Tetteh, 35.”

“As I promised you on Monday during the interview I had with you, the police will not relent on our efforts, but we will make the trade and business of the armed robbers distasteful and unpleasant”.
