Audit chair's reasons for 'frustrating' Domelevo make no sense – Franklin Cudjoe

President of policy think tank, IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has taken a swipe at the Board Chairman of the Audit Service Professor Edward Dua Agyeman for allegedly frustrating the work of the Auditor-General, Daniel Domelevo.

According to Mr. Cudjoe, all the reasons Prof. Agyeman has given for his actions make no sense.

“Nothing the board chairman has said in public makes sense,” he said on Citi FM/Citi TV’s news analysis programme, The Big Issue on Saturday.

The Auditor General petitioned the president complaining that the Board Chairman of the Audit Service, Professor Edward Dua Agyeman is unlawfully interfering in his work.

A letter the Auditor General wrote to the President, outlined several instances of interference in his work by the Board Chair.

The Presidency subsequently set-up a committee to investigate the concerns expressed by Mr. Domelevo.

But Professor Agyeman insists that he’s done nothing wrong.

“It is not that we do not want to work with him. He is insisting that he is not answerable to the Board and that whatever instructions we give he will not take,” Prof. Agyeman explained.

Prof. Agyeman Duan said the Board had also written a letter to the Presidency on the behaviour of the Auditor General.

Don’t touch Domelevo

But Franklin Cudjoe has urged the President, Nana Akufo-Addo not to touch the Auditor-General.

He believes Mr. Domelevo is the president’s last hope of fighting corruption in the country.

“If we make any attempt of removing this guy or stonewalling his efforts, the president may as well kiss goodbye to his fight against corruption. And he [President Akufo-Addo] needs to make a definite statement [on the matter]. I agree and I like the fact that the president has asked for investigations,” he added.

Audit Service chair must resign

The Director of Operations for the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Nana Ofori Owusu, who also spoke on The Big Issue called on Prof. Agyeman to resign.

“The board chairman should resign…We have seen a track record of this Auditor General and this person is pushing the envelope and then no other person than your board chair is trying to be on your way,” he added.
