Emulate Annan’s exceptional leadership skills – Emile Short to African leaders

African Leaders have been admonished to emulate the exceptional leadership skills of former United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, who discharged his duties in an exceptional way when he was alive.

The advice was given by former Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Emile Short on Wednesday, after he paid his last respect to Kofi Annan who has been lying in state at the Accra International Conference Centre since Tuesday.

“He demonstrated exceptional skills in peacekeeping. At one stage he was in charge of peacekeeping operations and he discharged that function with excellence. He also demonstrated leadership which African leaders should emulate,” Mr. Short said in a Citi News interview.

Kofi Annan died in Switzerland on August 18, 2018, at the age of 80 after a short illness, and will be buried at the Military Cemetery on Thursday, September 13, 2018, after a state funeral service.

People from all walks of life have been trooping to the AICC since Tuesday to view the remains of Kofi Annan which was brought into Ghana from Geneva on Monday.

Today, Wednesday, was set aside for dignitaries including government officials, judiciary, Members of Parliament, Ministers, Chiefs among other identifiable groups to also pay their last respects.

Emile Short in the interview described Kofi Annan as someone who remained humble despite ascending to one of the highest positions in the world.

“He discharged that function with excellence and I think we all should be proud of him. He is a very humble person… Even after he left the UN he continued in conflict resolution and because of his skills in conflict resolution, he was invited to Kenya to resolve the dispute that arose out of the 2007 elections which resulted in the death of almost a million citizens.  He was invited because of the respect that they had for him,” Emile Short added.
