Premier FM supports Sekondi female prisons with Christmas goodies

Premier 100.5 FM, a Takoradi based radio partner of Citi FM has supported the Sekondi Female Prisons with assorted groceries and sanitary products for their Christmas celebrations.

Speaking to Citi News during the presentation, the Manager of Premier FM, Joshua Kwabena Anim, said though they are based on the Takoradi Technical University campus, they find it obligatory to support their larger audiences especially the vulnerable.

“As a radio station, based on the campus of Takoradi Technical University, our purpose and our mandate is to serve the people. We have been doing these donations over the years. We are here to also support the female prisons to make sure they enjoy their Xmas and also make sure the prisoners are comfortable during this time through to the first quarter of next year. That is why we brought these items. The donation is made up of cooking items, sanitary products, and provisions.“

Joshua Anim also used the occasion to call for peaceful elections.

“As part of this presentation, we also want to take the opportunity to tell the general public that the election must be peaceful, and we should love one another. This election should not be the reason we have to attack a brother or a sister, so let the election be peaceful.“

The Officer-In-Charge of the Sekondi Female Prisons, Chief Superintendent Yirayira Ashong-Mettle, thanked Premier 100.5 FM for supporting the care of the 20 inmates.

She however called for more support.

“We thank Premier Radio for this gesture. One of our important mandates is to see to the welfare needs of our inmates and especially women. So to see that whatever they have donated here today are things that are going to mainly meet the welfare needs of the inmates is gratifying. You know when welfare needs are met, psychologically, emotionally, and physically, my dear inmates will stay calm. During this time of COVID-19 and as we are entering the election period, we are grateful for this donation because it is just a few people who will think that there are some people in here who need to be visited or supported. We want to say thank you for this special donation. It will go a long way to meet our needs.”

“We want to also let the other stakeholders out there to know that as Christmas is approaching, they shouldn’t forget that we have some unfortunate ones who are going to be here who won’t have their mother, father, or brothers coming to visit them. The little they will come and give to them will go a long way to make them feel special during Christmas. Currently, we have twenty women and apart from that, I have a nursing mother who has a son here whose needs are special. Therefore, I will need support to be able to take care of the baby boy. Apart from that, welfare needs in terms of food items, bedsheets for their beds, and any other thing that anybody feels touched to bring, we will be grateful. Especially during COVID-19, we will need personal protective kits to be able to continue to keep them safe in there,” she added.

The Manager of Premier 100.5 FM also promised to later donate cash for the care of a nursing mother inmate and her baby.
