Nana Addo must be blamed for attack on TTH CEO - George Loh

Former Member of Parliament for North Dayi Constituency, George Loh, has blamed the recent cases of political party vigilantism on President Akufo-Addo.

He says the President has the ‘sole responsibility’ to address issues of political vigilantism as the Commander In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.

According to him, the President is to be blamed for the actions of political vigilante groups as a result of his inability to affirm his authority to tackle the menace since his directives have been flouted.

“We must stop this lawlessness once and for all, and the President has the sole responsibility because he is the Commander-in-Chief of all the forces in this country.”

“In the State of the Nation address the President firmly told us that we need to put a total stop to such acts, but it turns out this is not going away. People’s lives are at stake. What sort of Government are we running?” he quizzed.

Speaking on Citi TV’s Breakfast Daily show, he accused leading party figures in the NPP of instigating the activities of the of some of the NPP linked vigilante groups.

“People lives are at stake. They do not care about that…The party stalwarts are behind these boys. Yesterday I listened to Musa Superior and he was so happy to admit that the Kandahar boys are part of the party security. What kind of party is that” He asked.

Mr. George Loh predicted that it would get to a time where other political parties will be compelled to create their own vigilante groups as a way of self-defense.

He would support any decision by the leadership of the NDC to create a political vigilante group to counter pro-NPP linked vigilante groups.

“It will lead to total chaos. It will lead another Arab spring in a different form. It will get to a time where our political parties will say that enough is enough and tomorrow if the NDC gets a group of boys together, some of us are pushing that we get an official group that will stop some of this nonsense. We cannot continue anymore.”

Mr. George Loh, who is also aspiring to become the NDC’s Secretary for the Volta Region further called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to put in place measures to address issues relating to political vigilantism, once and for all.

NPP Kandahar Boys chase out Tamale Teaching Hospital CEO

Mr. Loh made the remark on the back of the attack on the CEO of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Dr. David Zaawumya Kolbila, who was chased out of the hospital by a group believed to be aligned to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The group accused the CEO  of being incompetent, misuse of hospital funds and that he ignored them despite the role they played in getting him appointed.

They further accused the CEO of traveling to China without handing over to the next in command.

The group has vowed never to unlock his office until Dr. Kolbila is dismissed.

Tamale MDC reacts

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Iddrisu Musah Superior, has urged calm after Dr. Kolbila, was reportedly ordered out of the hospital by the NPP youth group.

“There is no evidence of vandalism. People are going about their duties without any fear or favor. There are patients around, and I don’t think there is any cause for alarm at the moment,” he said.
