Melcome donates to Police, Immigration service

The Melcom Group of Companies has extended its kind gesture to the Ghana Police Service and their sister counterparts, the Ghana Immigration Service.

As part of the benevolence, both agencies received donations worth thousands of Ghana Cedis from the Melcom Group.

The first donation saw the Ghana Police Service receive three motorbikes from Melcom.

This, the company say is in recognition of the job of the police to ensure a peaceful society.

Receiving the donation on the behalf of the service, the Acting IGP James Oppong Boanuh commended Melcom for a great work done and promised that, the items will be put to good use.

The second donation was to the newly created Public Affairs Department under the Kotoka International Airport Command of the Ghana Immigration Service.

Items presented by Melcom included water dispenser, Portable Mi-Fi speaker, double door refrigerator, 32 Inch digital satellite TV.

The rest are two swivel chairs, an office cabinet, two office desks, two wall clocks and a 3in1 seated airport chair.

In his address to the media after the donation, the director of communication of Melcom Group of Companies, Godwin Avenorgbo said the exercise was part of Melcom’s 30 years of successful business in Ghana.

He added that, the two agencies were targeted because of their selfless sacrifice aimed at ensuring internal security as well as securing the country’s borders.

Mr Avenorgbo further charged the personnel to cultivate good maintenance culture.

He also called on other corporate entities to emulate the good example of Melcom Group of Companies.

On her part, the Airport Regional Commander of the Ghana Immigration ACI Edith Penelope Quaye commended Melcom and pledged that the items will be utilized to the good of Ghana.

She also promised that the items will be carefully maintained.

Godwin Avenorgbo also used the opportunity to educate the public on Melcom’s latest Scratch and Win Promotion.

He announced that Melcom has started a promotion targeting the security service and the public and for every GH¢100.00 worth of items bought, one qualifies for a scratch card with a secret code to be texted to the short code, 1788 on all networks.

He said every month, raffles would be drawn and lucky winners would win items such as cars, laptops refrigerators, fans, among other items. The promotion ends on 31 August.

ABOUT THE KIA-GIS PR UNIT

The Public Affairs Officer of the Kotoka International Airport Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service, ASI Barbara Sam said the creation of the new public affairs unit was in conformity with the overall decentralization drive of the service.

She added that, they will execute their mandate of public awareness creation and projecting the image of the service.
