Voice Factory contestants celebrate highlife on Citi TV

Highlife music was given the spotlight this evening on Citi TV’s music talent show, Voice Factory.

Dubbed the ‘Highlife Night’ the ten contestants performed some of Ghana’s evergreen highlife songs.

Highlife is considered as one of Ghana’s music heritage; a genre that was created by fusing modern musical instrument with indigenous Ghanaian rhythms.

Cleck Boyson opened the performances with a rendition of Daughters of Glorious Jesus’ ‘Yesu Fata Ayeyi, after which which Idara came through with ‘Nwa Baby’ by Flavour.

Araba also sang ‘Yesu San Bra’ by the Golden Voice of Africa, Pat Thomas. This was followed by Gyae Su, another Pat Thomas’ song which was done by Ayjay Sam.

Charisma performed Kwabena  Kwabena’s ‘Dadie Anoma.’

There were other enthralling performances from KennieKings who sang ‘Because of Money’ by E.T. Mensah and the Tempos Band.

The second gospel song of the night was done by Oye.  She sang ‘Yehowa Behwe’ by Vodafone Ghana Music Award winner Diana Hamilton.

On of Ghana’s classic highlife piece, ‘Medofo Adaadaa Me’ by Awurama Badu was performed by Debbie. After that, Lina followed with Kojo Antwi’s ‘Medofo Pa.’

Red’m got evicted because he got the least votes (6.09%) for the week.

The remaining 9 singers will battle it out for the top spot, in live performance shows for the remaining weeks.

The judges for the night were music producer Kaywa, gospel musician Edinam Bright-Davies and CEO of Lynx Entertainment, Richie Mensah.

‘Voice Factory’ will be aired on Citi TV on Saturdays at 7 pm with daily updates at 12 pm.

The show is hosted by Osei Kwame, co-host of Citi FM’s late afternoon drive, Traffic Avenue and AJ Sarpong, host of Brunch in the Citi on Citi FM and Hall of Fame on Citi TV.
