NASPA to consider reintroduction of insurance policy for service personnel

The National Service Personnel Association of Ghana (NASPA) is considering the reintroduction of an insurance policy for its members to cater for their health and emergency needs.

The association believes members continue to suffer health and other challenges in their line of work.

Speaking at the National Mini Congress in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, the national executives of NASPA, explained that, the insurance policy would be of enormous benefit to members who may suffer injuries in the line of duty.

They indicated that, though former executives introduced an insurance policy, it has failed due to poor implementation.

In an interview with Citi News, National President of NASPA, Stephen Twumasi  said efforts will be expedited to make the reintroduction of the policy possible.

“For the consideration of the insurance package for service personnel, we the national executive committee believe that life and health is important. And that when a person is insured, they should be able to access health care anywhere when he is injured or disabled and given  a package that could take care of the condition.

He further added that Congress will soon announce how much will be charged for the insurance policy.

Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Secretariat, Dr. Gifty Oware Aboagye said, her outfit was liaising with industry players to equip personnel with entrepreneurial skills to start-up their own businesses after service.

“We have a lot of collaborations with MIT and a lot of agencies including the SOS where young people are supposed to be enhanced in terms of their ability.  ACC, GOOGLE is helping us to make sure that our national service personals are given soft skill that they need to get into the job market.

“We are now collaborating with some agencies who are job recruiters to have a job fair for personnel to know what the job market requires from them and all these processes are been done and they are all online with our system.  We are collaborating with some general agencies in the mining and banking sectors among others”, she noted.
