NGO rallies youth support to address Ghana's challenges

A local non-governmental-organization, As I Grow, based in Larteh in the Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region is urging young people to participate fully in development of the country by helping to address the challenges that exist in society.

The organization whose work includes   empowerment of women, and improving education in deprived communities recently held a community outreach at the Larteh Presby Senior High School.

It donated about 1000 copies of Bible study literature books to the school and encouraged the students to study hard and lead a morally upright life.

The leader of the organization, Isaac Debrah Bekoe said the level of moral degeneration seen among young people was alarming and there is the need to tackle the situation to ensure that more responsible future leaders are groomed.

“Your tutors are doing their best to develop their minds through western education (classroom learning) hence we as Christian organization we need to help build your morals so that the knowledge you’ll gain will not be marred through bad attitudes, conducts and behaviors,” Mr. Bekoe said.

He urged the students to eschew behaviours such as premarital sex, smoking and pornography.

“Your parents are looking for better lives out of you and for you to excel,you must fear the Lord, take Christianity serious, read your Bibles, practice the word of God and pray always”.

Mr. Bekoe expressed regret that many girls are unable to complete their education due to teenage pregnancy.

He therefore urged young girls to be firm and strong in their decisions in life not be swayed or give in to advances from men when they are to focus on their studies.

He called on all churches and the clergy to pay critical attention to the lifestyle of young people and help them to lead chaste lives.

The Chaplin of Larteh Presby Senior High School, Rev. Francis Tipon who commended the ‘As I Grow’ NGO for the gesture called on other Christian organizations to emulate it and take interest in the spiritual growth of young people.
