Mortuary workers suspend planned strike to negotiate with Fair Wages C'ssion

The General Secretary of the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana, Richard Jordan, has said the nationwide strike which was supposed to happen later this week has been put on hold.

According to the General Secretary, the association is about to enter into a negotiation with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission today, Thursday.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, the General Secretary said the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission two days ago invited the Association to start a negotiation process to address the issues in a constitutional manner.

“We declared intention, on a nationwide strike, now…just two days ago Fair Wages and Salaries Commission said we have to follow the rule of law, so they have invited the association to come and start a negotiation process on Thursday. Per the laws of this country you cannot during negotiations have a strike action, meaning the strike action has to be put on hold,” he said.

The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) was supposed embark on a second nationwide strike later this week.

According to the association, the strike was to register their displeasure over what they described as government’s reluctance in meeting their demands.

Earlier this year, the workers embarked on a similar strike to protest over poor working conditions and salaries.
