Accra Regional Police Command promises incident-free Easter

The Accra Regional Police Command has said it is ready to ensure a crime-free festive season.

The Command said all the necessary measures have been put in place to ensure there is no upsurge in crime during the period.

Director of Operations at the Accra Regional Police Command, ACP Kwesi Ofori in a Citi News interview called on the citizenry to assist the police to serve them better.

“We have earmarked Accra into 34 zones. We are everywhere day and night supported by the division district and station police personnel. [Operation] Calm life is also part of it, we are doing everything possible to make sure that we create that atmosphere for people to go about the celebration peacefully.”

“The churches and the major gatherings would also be well policed to make sure we have an incident-free Easter. Those who would be holding major events should also liaise with the police in all locality and communities they find themselves so that we can provide the much-needed security,” he said.

Police in the Ashanti Region have also deployed uniformed and plain clothed officers to augment the number of officers on patrols throughout the Easter festivities.

Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Godwin Ahianyo told Citi News that they will ensure that there is safety in the Region.

The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has also said it is possible for Ghana to enjoy the Easter festivities without recording any road traffic accidents if motorists and pedestrians adhere to road safety regulations.

The Executive Director, Mrs. Obiri Yeboah who spoke in Takoradi after an Easter road safety campaign durbar with drivers said the country cannot afford to continuously lose her workforce through road crashes.

Figures from the Western Regional Road Safety Commission show that 31 people were killed through 217 road accidents in the region in the first quarter of 2019, which represents about a 60 percent reduction of the 97-persons killed in the same period last year as a result of 689 road accidents.

To further reduce these disturbing cases, the National Safety Commission, the Police MTTD together with the Red Cross are conducting a simultaneous Easter road safety education across the country.
