CLUB beer launches Club 5 on 5 tournament

CLUB Beer, Ghana’s number one selling beer, has officially launched Club 5 on 5, a nationwide 5-aside football tournament for amateur football players.

The tournament is part of a continental football gala which will be held across 8 other African countries.

The event is being organised by Anheuser-Busch InBev, Accra Brewery Limited’s (ABL) parent company and the world’s largest brewer.

Speaking at the launch, ABL’s Country Director, Mr. Shaun Raposo, said that “football is a sport that Ghanaians are passionate about, and we are very excited about this tournament since it gives us the opportunity to offer brand experiences that play meaningful roles in the lives of our cherished consumers.”

He also mentioned that “this would build on the success of our CLUB ‘Charlie’ Won Shi Jama! campaign held last year”.

“With this tournament, we’re also able to reinforce CLUB’s position as a national icon and source of national pride, as well as its ability to bring friends together over shared Ghanaian passions across generations”, Mr Raposo remarked.

CLUB will organise a series of 5-aside football games beginning with knock out matches at local community levels. The winners will progress to regional levels and the emerging winners will be the pride of Ghana and represent Ghana in the continental tournament in Tanzania in June 2019.

The continental winners will thereafter win an ultimate European football experience.

ABL’s Head of Marketing, Ms. Ewurafua Addo-Atuah, provided information about the mechanics of the tournament, stating that “it is open to teams of 5 amateur football players with one (1) optional jama member. “Interested participants can sign up in selected outlets across the country by leaving their details in the entry boxes provided in the outlets”.

She further mentioned that team entries will begin from 15 March 2019 and reiterated that semi-professional and professional players are not eligible to participate, and urged groups of men and women to visit CLUB’s Facebook page @clubbeer.charlie and africafives.com for further details on participating outlets to be part of Ghana’s biggest 5-aside football tournament.

CLUB Premium Lager was first brewed in 1931 and has been brewed with the same dedication to quality for over 87 years now.

It has since become a truly national icon through the consistent use of adinkra symbols, national flag, and adoption of “Charlie” which cements its continuing presence throughout different occasions and generations.
