Dr. Kwabena Agyei to be laid to rest on May 31

The family of the late Dr. Kwabena Agyei has set May 31, 2019, as the date for the final funeral rites for the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairman.

This was made known at the thone-week celebration held today in honor of his Dr. Kwabena Agyei

He was chairman for the NDC from 2005 to 2014.

He died last week Tuesday at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital after a protracted illness.

The one week’s celebration was graced by the NDC’s leadership including its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah who described the former party chairman as an honourable man.

In a Facebook post last week Tuesday, John Mahama, the presidential candidate of the NDC, said Dr Adjei’s contributions to the NDC and the country were indispensable.

“I just learnt with profound sadness, the passing of Dr.KwabenaAdjei, former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Dr.Adjei has through his contributions left an indelible mark on the democratic development of the NDC as a party and our dear nation Ghana.

“I fondly remember Dr.Adjei for his firm and effective leadership of the Majority Caucus in Parliament of which I was a member between 1996 and 2000. His impassioned contributions to parliamentary debates and unflinching commitment have been a reference point for contemporary politicking.”

Former President Jerry John Rawlings also tweeted his condolences to the family of the late Dr. Kwabena Adjei.

In the tweet, Rawlings, founder of the NDC, described the late Dr.KwabenaAdjei as “a strong-spirited personality” who will be missed by many.

“My sincere condolences to the family and the NDC fraternity on the loss of Dr.KwabenaAdjei. He was a strong-spirited personality and will be missed by many. May his soul rest in peace.”

About KwabenaAdjei

Mr. Adjei entered politics in 1978 and was elected as a Council Member of the Jasikan District Council in the Volta region.

He subsequently served as Member of Parliament for the Biakoye Constituency from 1993 to 1996. He was re-elected in 1996 and served in that position till 2004.

In that time, he served as First Deputy Majority Chief Whip from 1993 to 1994.

In 2005, he became the National Chairman for the NDC and served in that role till 2014.
