I piloted Free SHS in 2012 because I had absolute trust in Akufo-Addo - Benjamin Ayeh

Benjamin Kofi Ayeh, former MP for Upper Denkyira West has revealed that he has always believed in President Akufo-Akufo’s ability to transform younger generations via the Free SHS policy.

Mr Ayeh who doubles as a communicator for the New Patriotic Party, NPP, made this remark on “Ghana Yenso Mu” one of the top political shows in the country.

Speaking on why he successfully piloted Free SHS in 2012 at Ayanfuri in Dunkwa, he said, “Considering the humble background I came from and the heights I have been able to attain through education, it didn’t make sense to me that brilliant children of school going age will be denied the opportunity to acquire education.

“I used to pay fees for individual students at various levels of education within my constituency at the time. So, when this concept was hatched by President Akufo-Addo, I did my calculations and realized that, if I piloted this Free Education at Ayanfuri by paying some dedicated teachers, a lot more people would benefit from the project.”

Hon Benjamin Ayeh however, indicated that, though the project encountered some challenges, it eventually took off and has since churned out graduates, many of whom have graduated from top universities across the country and are currently working in prestigious companies in Ghana.
