SIM Card Registration: All the hullabaloo on Ghana Card, “Much ado About Nothing” - Man jabs NIA and NCA

The National Communication Authority’s stance on the use of Ghana Card as the sole form of Identification Card for the ongoing SIM Card Registration exercise has met stiff resistance from a section of Ghanaians.

One of such persons, is Yaw Obuasi, a driver in Accra who expressed his view on current affairs show “Ghana Yenso Mu”.

According to him, this is not the first time, authorities have made citizens join endless queues for identification cards only to hop on a new one after the previous one is complete.

“This is about the third time we have been asked to register our SIM cards. Eventually, you’ll realize that it’s very much possible for people to use their cards to transact business on behalf of others. Nothing works well in this country,” he alarmed.

Similar to Yaw Obuasi, others have called on authorities to accept other forms of Identification Cards such as the Voter ID cards, Passport, Driver’s license among others.

The Minister for Communication, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekufful has however, maintained that the Ghana Card will remain the only accepted card for the SIM Card Registration Exercise, hence all who do not have it, should take steps to acquire one.

These developments follow a directive from the NCA that all mobile telephony patrons should register their SIM Cards by March 2022, or have their SIM cards blocked.
