Krofrom fire renders 40 homeless

Over 40 people have been displaced after fire swept through some 16 makeshift structures at Krofrom near Three Stones Clinic in the Bush Doctor’s street in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.

The fire started from one of the wooden structures and spread to others around 1:30 am today, Tuesday, 11 May 2021.

The swift response to distress calls by firefighters from Manhyia and KNUST fire stations put the blaze under control.

Properties amounting to thousands of Ghana cedis were lost to the inferno.

The Ghana National Fire Service is yet to come out with the cause of the fire but some victims attributed it to erratic power supply or (dumsor).

No casualties were recorded.

A victim and pregnant woman, Fatima Osman, told Class News’ regional correspondent Elisha Adarkwah that she lost everything to the blaze including a sum of GHS5,000.

Another victim said she lost GHS3,000 in addition to her properties.

The victims, therefore, called on the government and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to come to their aid.

Meanwhile, the Manhyia Fire Commander, DO1 Amos Aban, says they have commenced investigations into the cause of the fire.
