Akuapem Poloo apologizes for nude photo with 7-year-old son

Actress Akuapem Poloo has apologised for a nude picture posted on social media with her son on his seventh birthday.

Known in real life as Rosemond Brown, she has been at the receiving end of a mix of commendation and backlash after some users criticised the Instagram photo as insensitive and an abuse of the boy’s rights.

The picture depicted the actress in a naked state squatting before her half-naked 7-year-old son as they held hands.

She earlier defended her action saying “. He did not see my organs because I covered myself with a cloth and applied sellotapes to the necessary parts. Besides the picture was taken in my own house.”

Speaking to Accra-based Zylofon FM, Ms Brown said the attention should be directed at the ‘knowledgeable’ caption rather than the photo, adding socialites will only appreciate the photo if they understand her intent.

Akuapem Poloo after the criticisms deleted the photo and posted another with the two of them fully clothed in matching fabric.

Some civil society organisations including Child Rights International also raised concern over the development calling on the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to look into the matter which they say amounts to the breach of the Welfare Principle of the Child’s Act.

However, the actress seems to have made a sudden U-turn. In the latest video that surfaced online, Akupem Poloo is seen giving further clarification on what the act sought to achieve adding that it was to get wards to do more for mothers no matter how deprived the state in which they [mothers] find themselves in.

“What I was saying was that, no matter how naked you see your parent, don’t run away from them. Get close to them and cloth them,” she said in the video making rounds on social media.

According to her, the image was an ‘artistic impression’ to get the message across, which obviously did not sit well with a section of the public.

She also apologised for her actions which she was not underpinned by any ill-motive.

“I am so sorry that if I hurt anyone with my post this morning. I also want you to know that it wasn’t made with a bad intention,” she said.
