Over 15,000 policemen deployed for Christmas festivities – IGP reveals

The Ghana Police Service has deployed over 15,000 police to maintain law and order during the Christmas festivities, Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh has revealed.

He adds that the number includes personnels who have been deployed to various vantage points, particularly crime-prone areas to maintain law and order.

“We have intensified day and night patrols, increased community engagements and sensitization on security matters, deployed some technological devices to enhance information gathering, stepped-up traffic management, intelligence-led operations, snap checks and highway patrol”, he revealed while speaking at the Christmas Safety and Security Project organized by the Graphic Communications Group.

According to him, these interventions during the christmas season can only be effective if the Police receives the needed support from the general public.

“The Police can only be successful in this collective effort if it receives reliable information from the general public. I wish to assure Ghanaians and all foreign nationals in Ghana that the Police is committed to ensure that you celebrate the Christmas without experiencing any major security drawbacks.” He assured.

“While the Police, with the support of other security agencies, strives to guarantee the safety and security of everyone, it is important to note that personal security is a fundamental responsibility of every individual.Be alert and conscious of happenings in your environment and neighbourhood. Be each other’s keeper and report every suspicious criminal activity to the Police for prompt action”, He advised.
