Forget EIU report and focus on bread & butter issues - Pratt

The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., believes the country would be better off if it does not put premium on the latest report of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

To him, the report will not put bread on the table of Ghanaians.

The report indicated that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will retain power in 2020.

Other aspects of the report also indicated that “corruption in the public sector remains endemic and a source of anger among the population. In February 2018 a special prosecutor, Martin Amidu, was sworn in, with the remit of reducing graft. Progress has not yet been reported, but pressure to reduce corruption will rise ahead of the 2020 elections. Failure to address this issue could weigh on voter confidence in the political system, although such grievances are relatively low-level.”

Contributing to a panel discussion on Friday’s edition of Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Mr Pratt said there are urgent issues confronting the economy that needs more attention.
