Normalisation Committee to stay in office for six months more

Football’s world governing body has extended the mandate of the Ghana Football Association Normalisation Committee until September 30, 2019.

The four-member committee, appointed on September 13, 2018, to restore normalcy into Ghana football after FIFA dissolved the GFA Executive Committee, was given an initial six-month mandate to end on March 31, 2019.

However, the world body has handed the Dr Kofi-Amoah led body a further six-month extension to see to the completion of reforms in Ghana football and also organise elections for new GFA Executive Committee members and its president, to replace Kwesi Nyantakyi, who resigned in June 2018 in the wake of an exposé into widespread corruption in the administration of Ghana football.

Mr Nyantakyi, who was a member of the decision making FIFA Council and vice president of the Confederation of African Football, was later handed a lifetime ban from all football activities by FIFA’s Ethics Committee for breaching its code of ethics.

Dr Amoah explained to Graphic Sports Online that following a presentation of a report at the recent FIFA Council meeting in the USA, it was agreed that the FA’s caretaker body be given a further six months extension to enable it do a thorough job to restore Ghana football to normalcy.

Confirming the new development to Graphic Sports Online, Normalisation Committee President, Dr Amoah, noted that following a presentation of a report at the recent FIFA Council meeting in the USA on the Ghana’s Normalisation Committee, it was agreed that the FA’s caretaker committee be given a further six months extension to enable it do a thorough job to restore Ghana football to normalcy.

He said extension was the clearest demonstration by FIFA of its satisfaction with the work of the Normalisation Committee so far.

“It is true our mandate has been extended till September 30. The president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino at FIFA Council in Miami presented a report about the work of the Normalisation Committee developments in Ghana football. He appreciated what had been accomplished so far but concluded that there was more work to be done,” Dr Amoah explained.

The situation means the GFA Normalisation Committee will oversee Ghana’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Egypt and beyond.
