UCC sports team off to Egypt to participate in first ever African Universities Olympic games

A contingent of 25 made up 18 athletes and 7 officials made the trip this morning.

The delegation which is headed by Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCC Prof Dora Edu Boandu included Dr Charles Domfeh who doubles as Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA ) president and also the Chairman of Sports and recreation committee, UCC.

The event which starts from 12th -19th March 2019 will see more than 30 Universities across Africa competing for laurels in Athletics, Soccer and Basketball.

Three Universities; University of Cape Coast, University for Development Studies and the University of Ghana will be the only representative from Ghana in this year’s competition.

The University of Cape Coast who placed third and the best among all the Ghanaian Universities at the just ended West Africa Universities Games would want to replicate their performance at the continental stage.

Seasoned athletes like Margaret Simpson, Latifa Ali, Vivian Mills, Mathew Nantiere, Ali Shafric and Shadrack Opoku Agyeman who have represented Ghana at various world stages will boost UCC’s chances to make an impact at the African level.
