Ghanaians unhappy celebs didn’t attend Anokye Supremo’s funeral

The late addy Lumba lookalike, Anokye Supremo, was buried over the weekend in Accra after he died from a brain tumour in an Indian Hospital.

Anokye Supremo became a household name in Ghana due to his unique resemblance to the legendary Ghanaian singer, Daddy Lumba.

He called himself Daddy Lumba Jnr. and said on many platforms that Daddy Lumba Snr was his mentor but he rebranded himself to Anokye Supremo after the ‘Aben Wo Ha’ hitmaker threatened to sue him.

Unfortunately, Anokye Supremo was diagnosed of a brain tumour which eventually led to his death.

Monies were contributed by close friends and loved ones to bring his mortal remains back to Ghana before his final funeral rites took place.

Some fans and Ghanaians don’t seem to be happy with the attendance of celebrities at the sombre funeral that happened over the weekend.

One of the veteran musicians who shocked Ghanaians by not gracing the funeral with his presence was Daddy Lumba SNR.

A social media user, Doris Anderson, was particularly livid, saying she could not understand why Ebony Reigns received a lot of attention and not Anokye Supremo’s.

“I am highly disappointed in the musicians and the celebrities in Ghana. Today I’m sadder than the day Anokye died.  Not long ago when Ebony died, musicians and celebrities showed up in their numbers, some of them even paid photographers to follow them and take their pictures so that we may know that they came. Why not Anokye? Is he a lesser musician? My heart aches right now. Rest in Peace Kwame. Rest well. And may God richly bless you Kofi Adoma Nwawani and Ghana’s most loyal friend ZACK.”

Another user, who goes by the name, Shine Bright also labelled the country’s celebs as hypocrites saying, “Anokye’s burial was unique. Whether musicians came or not, he has been buried peacefully. Shame on those hypocrites.”

“Typical, even in death and not one celebrity at present, this goes out to tell you the hypocrisy and dumbness that exist in our midst. RIP no one will turn stone we will all die one day. Many thanks to Kofi Adoma, Zack and all those who contributed toward Anokye’s journey to India and bringing him back to Ghana for a fitful burial. GOD bless you all,” Michael Boye Marquaye, a social media user,

Some, however, lauded celebs who were passionate enough to be present on the funeral grounds thus: “Shame on Ghana celebrities, God bless you DSP Kofi Sarpong, Baba spirit and Kakyire Kwame Appiah.”

One other user, Kobla Kartey-corsy, however disagreed with the criticisms being levelled against the celebs.

According to him, Anokye Supremo’s brand did not warrant the kind of funeral the critics expected for him.

“Folks need to stop hammering the artists who didn’t show at the funeral. First of all, he wasn’t any great musician with a special hit. He run his carrier on a wrong lane, heading the opposite direction, as if he was in a police chase. Everybody, including me, know him as an imposture of Lumba snr. and eating on Lumbas’. None of his tunes did hit in Ghana, it was all about Lumba snr. even Patapeezy is more of a musician than this guy,” he said.
