Ban stadia with no CCTV cameras – Security expert at FIFA to GFA

A Safety and Security expect for the Fédération Internationale de Football Association and Confederation of African Football (CAF), Mr Nick Owusu has condemned the increasing rate of hooliganism that has characterised the ongoing Ghana Football Association (GFA) Normalisation Special Competition.

He said it is about time the GFA rejects stadia that do not meet the standards of the FA.

“If you don’t have inner perimeter, public address system, CCTV camera, etc., if you don’t have these at your venue, that means your venue should not be approved,” he suggested.

Mr Owusu said security officers sent to league centres should be trained very well so that people can go and watch their game and come back home in peace.

“In Ghana, most of the time fans of different clubs sit together, so it’s good for the match, but clubs need to put stronger measures to avoid violence,” he advised.

He added that the GFA Normalisation Committee, in collaboration with the Ghana League Clubs Association, should introduce fan tournaments that could help sensitise and teach fans about the effects of violence at the stadium.
