The heroes of Dortmund’s fairytale journey to Wembley

The heroes of Dortmund’s fairytale journey to Wembley

Just like in 2013, Dortmund are heading to Wembley for the Champions League final.

Several key players have contributed to this remarkable achievement.

Mats Hummels

Mats Hummels was adjudged as the man of the match in both matches against PSG in the semi-finals.

…like fine wine.

The 35-year-old is one of the two surviving members of the Dortmund squad that last made the final.

Marco Reus

💛🖤👋🏻 Marco Reus’ last game as BVB player will be the Champions League final at Wembley.

The 34-year-old also featured in the Champions League final in 2012.

This is his final season and he will also have a final date with destiny as he tries to win the trophy that eluded him in 2013.

Edin Terzić

In 2013, Terzić was just an avid Dortmund supporter cheering on his beloved club as they made an improbable run to the Champions League final before ultimately falling to Bayern Munich.

Fast forward a decade, and the former fan is now the man in the dugout masterminding Dortmund’s fairy-tale return to club football’s biggest game.

Jadon Sancho

Dortmund took a chance Jadon Sancho after his fallout with Erik ten Hag and gave him a shot at redemption.

The winger has provided a spark and became the first player to complete 25+ take-ons in the knockout round of this season’s Champions League.

Sebastian Haller

For Sebastian Haller, it could be back-to-back trophy celebrations for the Ivorian who won the AFCON trophy earlier in the year.

The striker has largely struggled with injuries but his goal at the Wanda Metropolitano kept Dortmund in the tie against Atletico Madrid.
