Mason Greenwood: Getafe keen on keeping Man United outcast

Getafe president Angel Torres has expressed the club’s desire to retain Manchester United’s on-loan forward Mason Greenwood for another season, indicating that both parties are inclined towards extending the arrangement.

In an interview with Spanish radio station Radio Marca on Tuesday, Torres revealed that Greenwood, along with the club and his parents, are open to the idea of continuing his stint at Getafe for another year.

“If it was up to the lad, his parents and the club, I think he would continue for another year,” Torres said

Greenwood, who joined Getafe on loan last September, has made a significant impact, tallying 10 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish side, currently placed 10th in La Liga.

The move to Getafe came following an internal investigation by Manchester United into Greenwood’s conduct, prompting the club to opt for his temporary departure.

While Getafe appears eager to retain Greenwood’s services, Torres disclosed that Manchester United may be open to selling the 22-year-old if a favorable offer arises, signaling the likelihood of a prolonged stay in Spain.

“Regarding Manchester United, the news that we have from last week, where the sporting director went to England to see some games and was with them, is that, if a good offer comes along, they would want to sell because he is not going to go back there.

“We’ll have to wait until the end of June.

The people and the coach are very happy with him.

“I think he will remain with us for another season, or at least until January.

He is a good footballer.”

Despite Greenwood’s success at Getafe, his parent club Manchester United has faced struggles in the Premier League, epitomized by their recent 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

With hopes of European football for next season diminishing, the FA Cup clash against Manchester City represents a crucial opportunity for redemption under manager Erik ten Hag.

As both clubs navigate their respective challenges, Greenwood’s future remains a topic of interest, with Getafe’s aspiration to extend his loan spell indicative of his positive impact in La Liga.
