Limited Voter Registration: EC admits technical challenges on Day 1; assures smooth exercise

The Electoral Commission (EC) has admitted to the technical challenges it faced at some of the registration centres on the first day of the limited voter registration exercise ongoing across the country.

The exercise, which was originally scheduled to start at 7 a.m., witnessed a significant delay due to the late arrival of registration equipment, network connectivity challenges and an erratic power supply (dumsor).

The Commission in a statement on Tuesday, May 7, noted that “following our monitoring of the Voters Registration Exercise this morning, we observed some technical challenges with internet connectivity in a number of our Centres.”

“This delayed the start of the registration at a number of the Registration Centres,” it said.

“We are happy to note that by 12pm, the technical issues in most of the Registration Centres had been resolved.

Consequently, the Registration Exercise is proceeding smoothly in almost all the Registration Centres nationwide,” the statement added.

“The Commission will continue to monitor the Registration Exercise and promptly address any issues that may arise.”
