Erratic power supply, network challenges affecting voter registration exercise in Tamale metropolis

Power outage, unstable network services and a technical challenge with registration equipment in the Greater Tamale Metropolis is delaying the start of ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

Scores of applicants who thronged the Sagnerigu and Tamale metro registration centres to acquire a voter identification card say the process is frustrating.

Abubakari Naimah, a final year student of the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) was the first to arrive at the registration center at 4:30am.

She told 3news.com the situation is frustrating

“I came here around 4 to 5:00am to register because we were given holidays to do so, but it’s past 11:00am and I’m yet to go through the process.

They should have tried their machines since yesterday to be sure,” she lamented.

The Electoral Commission is targeting to register some 632,000 prospective applicants in its ongoing limited voter registration exercise which spans from May 7, to May, 27.

Even though it also said it has made provision for generator sets, they are expected to be used in its mobile registration centres in hard to reach areas.

The Electoral Commission has since declined commenting on the matter.
