Ghana-China deepen bilateral relationship

The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey on Friday May 3, received the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E.

Lu Kun at his office in Accra to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Ghana and China and to discuss possible areas of cooperation between the two nations.

He assured the Ambassador of the Government of Ghana’s continuous commitment to ensuring peace, safety and security in the country which has created an enabling environment for business to thrive and further said without peace there cannot be development and therefore necessary measures will continuously be put in place to ensure stability in the country.

Henry Quartey acknowledged the support of the Chinese Government in providing training and capacity-building programmes for the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies under the Ministry.

He noted that the programmes have improved the knowledge and skills of Officers and also contributed to the security sector’s development.

The Minister highlighted the significant contributions of Chinese companies operating in Ghana, citing their roles in creating employment opportunities and boosting the country’s economy.

He stated that the companies have invested heavily in various sectors which have provided training and skills development programmes for Ghanaians.

Henry Quartey further acknowledged China’s support to Ghana, particularly regarding scholarship programmes for Ghanaians, which have enabled many students to pursue higher education in China.

He used the opportunity to request the Chinese Government to provide tailored-training programmes for the Ministry of the Interior and its Agencies, aimed at enhancing the skills and expertise of personnel.

Lu Kun thanked the Minister for the visit and expressed satisfaction with the level of Chinese companies flourishing and contributing to Ghana’s development as a result of the peace and security in the country.

The Ambassador assured the Hon.

Minister of China’s willingness to support capacity-building initiatives in Ghana and pledged to work with the relevant authorities to provide the requisite training programmes.

The courtesy call marked a significant step in strengthening the diplomatic ties between China and Ghana, and both parties expressed their desire to continue working together for the benefit of their citizens.
