Ghana secures Paris Olympic Games qualification in Bahamas

Ghana’s 4x100m men’s relay team punched a ticket to the Paris Olympic Games after a blistering run on Day 2 of the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas.

The quartet of Ibrahim Fuseini, Isaac Botsio, Benjamin Azamati and Joseph Paul Amoah took to the tracks on Sunday after a disappointing Day performance.

Racing in Heat 2 at the Thomas A Robinson National Stadium in Nassau, the Ghanaians clocked a time of 38.29s, a Season Best, to make it to the Summer Games.

Jo Paul made the quickest run of 9.12s to ensure that Ghana finished as winners of the Round 2 heat.

Nigeria also booked a place at the Games, finishing 2nd behind Ghana in a time of 38.57s.

In the other heats, South Africa (38.08) and Liberia (38.65) also joined Ghana and Nigeria as African qualifiers to the 33rd Olympic Games.

USA emerged tops in both the men’s and women’s 4×100 finals, having already booked tickets to the Games on Day 1.

After finishing as the fastest in the heats, world champion Noah Lyles powered the Americans to Gold in 37.40s.

Canada and Italy won silver and bronze respectively.
