MD of Ghana Water Company wins Outstanding CEO award

The Managing Director of the Ghana Water Limited (GWL) Ing.

Clifford Braimah, has been honored by the Public Utilities Workers Union of TUC Ghana for his invaluable contribution to the Union at the 2024 May Day celebration.

This is the first time in the history of GWCL and Labour Unions, a Chief Executive has received the highest award presented by H.E.

Clifford’s experience and expertise in water management has been highlighted having served as the long serving Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company.

Since assuming office as the MD of GWCL in 2017, Ing.

Clifford Braimah has worked tirelessly to improve water supply in the country.

Prior to his appointment in March 2017, he was the Dean of the School of Engineering at Tamale Technical University.

Over the years, Ing.

Clifford prides himself for achievements on the fronts of Technology (smart metering, e-billing and collection, telemetry, scada & general automation); the refinement of our HR procedures (including improved technicalities in recruiting engineers and review of manuals); regenerating technical minds through training; creating two subsidiaries from GWCL (I.e. Ghana Water Institute and G-Water Company) and creating a safe labour front.

He had training in leadership from Harvard Business School; Leadership for Senior Executives and Leading Change and Organizational Renewal.

Creation of a dedicated department to provide services in the low-income areas of our urban centers, Low Income Consumer Support Department

Few of the projects are the Performance Audit of Savelugu Water System for the Savelugu/Nanton Municipal Assembly in the Northern Region and the development of a CIDA-funded training manual for small towns water supply system operations.

He was also involved in the training of small towns water supply system operators and managers on operations and maintenance of 30 small towns in the Northern Region.

In addition, he engaged in the training of engineers of MMDAs on tools in the monitoring and supervision of small towns water supply systems in all 216 MMDAs in Ghana.

He is a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE) and International Water Association (IWA).  He is a lead author of numerous peer-reviewed journal articles on Water and Engineering.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and Master of Science degree in Environmental Resources Management from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Ghana.  He also holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Water Supply Management from Cranfield University, UK.
