Hummels speaks on Dortmund future following Champions League victory over PSG

Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels has opened up on his future with the club following Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The Black and Yellows secured a slim win over the French champions thanks to Niclas Fullkrug’s brilliant strike in the 36th minute.

Speaking after the game on Hummels couldn’t specify whether his time with the the German side would come to an end after the season or not.

“Possibly.

I’ve been thinking about what’s next for me.

It won’t be decided until when the last game of the season is over.

Of course, I’m also looking to see what opportunities there are – including here.

“The Champions League with BVB is secured for next season, that’s also a big aspect.

I just have to see what the options are and what I want to do,” he said.

Since rejoining Dortmund in 2019, the veteran has been a reliable presence in the team’s defense, playing a key role in their journey to the brink of the Champions League final.

Yet, with Hummels’ contract expiring this summer, it remains uncertain whether the 35-year-old will commit to an extension with Borussia Dortmund or seek opportunities elsewhere.

Dortmund’s recent victory over PSG ensures their continued participation in the Champions League next season, even if they finish fifth.

However, they will undoubtedly hope to retain one of their standout performers for the campaign ahead.
