Ghana Armed Forces names slain soldier in Kasoa shooting

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has identified the soldier who was killed over a land dispute in Millennium City, Kasoa.

Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Danso Michael was named as the deceased who only accompanied his colleague, Lance Corporal Omar Abdul Rahman and other officer, Lance Corporal Ametus Matthew to a half plot of land at Millennium city in Kasoa.

In a statement to confirm the death of the officer, GAF said its preliminary investigations indicate that Lance Corporal Omar Abdul Rahman owned a half plot of land at Kasoa which was in dispute.

GAF said Omar Abdul Rahman received information on Tuesday, April 30 that some men were working on the half plot of land which was in dispute.

Accompanied by two of his colleagues, Lance Corporal Danso Michael (the deceased) and Lance Corporal Ametus Matthew, they visited the land and confirmed the information upon which they subsequently stopped the men from working on the land.

The statement continued that the officers proceeded to the Kasoa Millennium City police station to report the issue only to be confronted by Benlord Ababio, the acclaimed owner of the land and two others believed to be land guards.

GAF said Benlord Ababio “in an unprovoked circumstance, attacked and killed” Lance Corporal Danso Michael by opening fire at him in his vehicle.

GAF further commiserated with the deceased’s family, colleagues, friends and loved ones and said it will closely collaborate with the Ghana Police Service to conduct further investigations into the matter.

Meanwhile, the police has arrested one suspect, Benlord Ababio in connection with the death of the soldier.
