Vicente Del Bosque returns to supervise Spanish football federation

Former Spain national team coach Vicente del Bosque has been appointed to lead a newly established committee tasked with overseeing the country’s football federation.

The Spanish government’s decision to form this committee comes in the wake of recent upheavals, including the arrest of former federation president Luis Rubiales as part of a corruption probe.

Rubiales, who also faces separate allegations of coercion and sexual assault, has been replaced pending elections to appoint a new federation president.

Del Bosque, a revered figure in Spanish football, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having guided Spain to their first-ever World Cup triumph in 2010 and secured European Championship glory in 2012.

The 73-year-old also boasts an impressive managerial record at club level, winning eight trophies during his tenure at Real Madrid, including two Champions League titles.

With Spain co-hosting the 2030 men’s World Cup, Vicente Del Bosque’s appointment is seen as crucial for restoring stability amidst concerns raised by FIFA regarding the federation’s issues.

Spain’s national team, known as La Roja, is currently gearing up for the 2024 European Championship.

Del Bosque’s leadership is expected to provide much-needed steadiness as Spain prepare to navigate through Group B, which includes challenging opponents such as Croatia, Italy, and Albania.
