Wilson Arthur: Skyy FC owner faces disciplinary action over referee comments

The owner of Division One League side Skyy FC, Wilson Arthur, has been charged by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for his recent comments regarding match officials in the ongoing campaign.

Arthur has been accused of breaching Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Division One League Regulations, 2019, following remarks made about match officials during a media interview.

The GFA Prosecution alleges that his commentary on the match officials constitutes misconduct that brings the game into disrepute.

Arthur has until Thursday, April 25, 2024, to respond to the charges.

In a recent interview with Akoma FM, Arthur complained about officiating, alleging that his team has suffered numerous dubious decisions, which have left them struggling.

He expressed frustration, stating his intention to cease investing in football and pursue other business ventures due to the losses incurred as a result of deceit from match officials.

“After 22 games in Division One, I can say that approximately eight referees came specifically to sabotage my team.

Everything about the way they officiated the game suggested that the referee was there to hurt me,” Arthur stated.

“I’m unable to make investments or start club football again because I will undoubtedly be cheated in the end.

It was more like a war against Sefwi All Stars.

“I’ve realized that funding club football will not benefit me going forward, rather, it feels like I’m not welcome there, so I need to find something else to do.”

With Skyy FC currently ranked sixth in Zone 2 of the Division One league with 34 points, Arthur’s comments come amidst the team’s aspirations of gaining promotion to the top-flight league.

The club narrowly missed out on promotion last season.
