Former Kotoko striker Eric Bekoe gets GFA appointment

Former Asante Kotoko striker Eric Bekoe has been appointed as assistant coach of the newly formed national U-19 male team.

Bekoe will be assisting the experienced Abdul Karim Zito, as announced by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Monday.

Bekoe, 37, started coaching some years ago and was appointed head coach of Division Two side, Montreal United FC in 2021.

The GFA stated, “Bekoe’s expertise and positive energy will certainly complement Zito’s strong leadership.”

According to the GFA, the new U-19 team aligns with its strategy of building a developmental pathway for young Ghanaian players.

Zito brings a wealth of experience and tactical acumen to his new role.

His achievements include clinching the U20 WAFU Championship in 2020 and the U20 Africa Cup of Nations title in 2021, demonstrating his ability to mould young talents into formidable competitors on the international stage.

Zito, who is currently the coach of Dreams FC, masterminding their incredible run in the CAF Confederation Cup as the club have reached the semi-final, is expected to nurture young talent and build a culture of consistent excellence within all the national teams.

Zito’s appointment also represents a natural progression, having previously served as the head coach of the national U-15 and U-17 teams, Zito is well-versed in the intricacies of youth football development.
