NPP reacts to Alan Kyerematen's resignation

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described as “unfortunate” a decision by a former stalwart, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, to resign from the party.

Not only did he announce his resignation from the ruling party, but Mr Kyerematen also made known his intention to contest next year’s presidential elections as an independent candidate.

This was seen as coming after the former Minister of Trade and Industry withdrew from the party’s presidential primary, citing intimidation and the skewing of the process to favour one candidate, said to be Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

After he made known his decision on Monday, September 25, the NPP in a statement issued by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong urged calm among its rank and file.

“The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken notice of the unfortunate decision of Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, a ling-standing member of the party to forfeit his membership, and contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections.

“The Party leadership is by this medium, urging the rank and file of our great party to remain calm and await an official address by the party to Mr Kyerematen’s resignation at 14:00pm on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at the Party headquarters.

“May God bless our homeland Ghana and make the New Patriotic Party great and strong.”
