Interdiction of WASS headmistress is to keep others mute - GNAT Chairman

Chairman of the Madina-Adenta-Abokobi GNAT District, Christian Yaw Adinkra has described the interdiction of the headmistress of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS) by the Ghana Education Service (GES) as a ploy to gag teachers and cover the deficiencies of the government’s Free SHS programme.

He told Johnnie Hughes on the 3FM Sunrise Morning Show that there are identifiable challenges undermining the effective implementation of the FSHS policy in the schools such as; food shortage, delay in the supply of uniforms, lack of accommodation, and inadequate teaching and learning materials.

“This interdiction is a ploy to intimidate and keep other heads mute on the already exacerbated situations on our SHS campuses” Yaw Adinkra alleges.

He further called on the Ministry of Education and the GES to fix the mess in Ghana’s education system than go after hardworking resourceful head teachers who are trying to manage the situation.

According to Mr.

Adinkra, it is a fact that because of the financial challenges the school is faced with, the parents come together to put resources together to support the school provide whatever is needed for their wards’ education.

“For example; we could ask for supplies and it would take us sometimes, more than two months for food to be supplied” he explained.

“The Ministry and the GES should fix the mess than to go after hardworking resourceful heads” he admonished.

The GES in a press statement issued on 19 July, 2023 and signed by the Head of Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo announced the interdiction of Dr.

Shine Agatha Ofori, Headmistress of West Africa SHS for unauthorized collection of money from students.
