Bofoakwa Tano secure Ghana Premier League return after over a decade

In a thrilling encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium, Bofoakwa Tano emerged victorious in the Ghana Division One League Zone One playoff, securing their return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.

The final match against Eleven Wonders captivated fans with its twists and turns, ultimately culminating in a dramatic penalty shootout.

The Zone One top teams, Eleven Wonders and Bofoakwa Tano, had already showcased their dominance by finishing at the summit of their respective zones.

Eleven Wonders topped Zone One A with 52 points, while Bofoakwa Tano triumphed in Zone One B with an impressive 63 points.

From the outset, the match promised excitement as Leslie Aryeetey opened the scoring for Bofoakwa Tano in the 7th minute, putting his team in an advantageous position.

However, Eleven Wonders showed their mettle by equalizing early in the second half, with Osman Zackaria finding the back of the net in the 46th minute.

With no further goals in regulation time, the game moved into extra time.

Bofoakwa Tano’s hopes were momentarily dashed when Oblitey missed their sixth penalty, but Eleven Wonders couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity as Osman Zakaria failed to convert his spot-kick deciding to move from almost halfway through the pitch to strike.

The tension continued to rise as the shootout progressed.

Osei Asibe’s miss on the eighth penalty for Eleven Wonders declared Bofoakwa Tano winners of the tie as they reclaimed their long-awaited Premier League status.

Bofoakwa Tano joins Heart of Lions and Nations FC for next season’s Ghana Premier League campaign.
