GPL: Five things we learned from matchday 9

The Ghana Premier League resumed on Monday after a one-month hiatus because of 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, and Aduana Stars all won, while Kotoku Royals and Tamale City struggled.

Here are a few takeaways from Matchday 9.

HEARTS END NSOATREMAN HOME DOMINANCE.

Nsoatreman FC suffered their first home defeat in the Ghana Premier League, falling to Hearts of Oak at the Nana Koromansah II Park.

Along with the Great Olympics, Nsoatreman FC were the only team to win all four home matches.

Nsoatreman will have to bounce back against King Faisal in their next match after dropping to ninth place on the league standings.

Hearts of Oak, on the other hand, are on a roll under new manager Slavko, who has yet to lose a game in charge after six games.

Hearts are now in third place, two points behind league leaders Aduana Stars.

KOTOKO STOPS CHELSEA.

Kotoko came from behind to defeat Berekum Chelsea and climb back into the top four.

Kotoko remain unbeaten at the Baba Yara this season and will look to keep their fortress-like grounds in their bid to defend the Ghana Premier League title.

Both Kotoko and Hearts have fought for Premier League titles in recent years, and their proximity on the table suggests that another title battle is on the way.

BACK-TO-BACK DEFEATS FOR OLYMPICS

Accra Great Olympics suffered their first home defeat at the hands of Aduana Stars, who defeated the Accra-based side by a single goal at Sogakope Park.

Aduana Stars had lost their last two away matches, putting their top-of-the-league position in jeopardy.

It was also Oly Dade’s first back-to-back defeat in 12 Ghana Premier League matches.

Noah Martey’s solitary goal propelled them into the top four and it is likely what they have shown so far could make them good competitors.

Gold Stars have played five Ghana Premier League matches without defeat for the first time in their history, which is why they have to be checked by opponents from henceforth.

KOTOKU ROYALS ARE STILL SINKING

Kotoku Royals’ attempt to avoid defeat after losing four consecutive Premier League games was futile as Legon Cities thrashed them 3-0.
