UEFA CL: Liverpool to put Roma to the sword tonight

UEFA CL: Liverpool to put Roma to the sword tonight
Salah will lead Liverpool against his former club

It was almost inconceivable at the beginning of the season but Liverpool have now reached the Champions League semi-finals without suffering a single defeat so far in the competition.

They face AS Roma, Mohamed Salah’s former club, and a team with a storied European history against Liverpool, including a meeting in the final of the competition in 1984.

Tuesday sees the Italian side travel to Anfield for the first leg in what will no doubt be a tightly contested pair of matches.

Liverpool should be wary of allowing the Romans any chance to get that dangerous away goal because that’s what’s provided them passage through both the Round of 16 and quarter-finals.

Edin Džeko, with whom Salah will be very familiar as seven out of Salah’s 15 assists last season were made to the big man, already scored a brace against Chelsea and grabbed a goal in both games against Barcelona.

Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren will need to be on high alert for set pieces and crosses from the wing, which is how Eusebio Di Francesco’s men get their joy exploiting teams.

At 6:45pm tonight when the Anfield crowd find their collective voices to sing the famous ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ tune and Roma try every means possible to clog their ears and not get intimidated by the noise, it promises to be a proper UCL semi final night, one many around the world will keep an eye on.

“You’ve been the true star of this European campaign – now let’s show our best to the world.”

Jürgen Klopp’s message to fans…
