Arsenal process for hiring Arsene Wenger's successor starts now - CEO Ivan Gazidis

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis provides his heartfelt sentiment and tributes to all of Arsene Wenger's achievements at the club.

LONDON -- Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis says the process of finding a successor to Arsene Wenger "starts today" but admitted the club will never see another manager like him.

Gazidis told a news conference that he spent an hour with Wenger on Friday after the announcement that the long-term manager would step down at the end of the season.

But he said that out of respect for Wenger "we haven't had any discussions about [his successor] today. So that process starts today."

And he added: "We don't find a replacement for Arsene Wenger, you find a new path forward."

Gazidis also said the timing of the announcement was meant to give Arsenal fans a chance to pay tribute to Wenger and give the club enough time to find a successor before a busy World Cup summer.

"I think you're going to see some fantastic atmospheres and a coming together of the Arsenal family in the three games we have remaining at the Emirates," Gazidis said. "The decision had to happen at some time. I don't think the club has ever been better prepared for that decision."
