Ghana recently hosted the African hockey club cup

Ghana’s female hockey team suffered a humiliating 12-0 defeat to New Zealand in its opening game at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

It was the second round of matches for Pool B after the first round of matches on Thursday had seen New Zealand thrash Scotland 6-1. Hosts Australia had also picked a narrow 1-0 win over Canada.

Stepping on the field for the first time at the Game, the Black Stix failed to glitter.

They currently lie bottom of Pool B with their next encounter on Saturday against the hosts.

Ghana is one of two African sides at the Games. South Africa is in Pool A and its men’s team is the only side from the continent in men’s hockey.
