Aspiring National Chairman of the People's Progressive Party (PPP), Nana Ofori Owusu has vehemently kicked against the number of staff working under the Office of the President.
Registering his resentments over what he believes is a ridiculous number to behold in government; Nana Ofori Owusu wondered what all those people are doing at the Presidency.
According to him, it is very disturbing that a nation like Ghana with a population of only 26 million would have 998 Presidential staff when the economy is challenged by several issues that need to be addressed.
To him, the government is piling up expenditures that will later blow back into the faces of Ghanaians and exert pressure on the economy.
Nana Ofori Owusu noted that it is prudent for the nation to establish the correct number to staff the Presidency.
“What is the correct staffing level for a country like Ghana? A nation of 26 million people, at the Presidency; what should be the correct staffing levels . . . In the United States of America, Presidential staffers are 377. In the Republic of Ghana, with the population of 26 million, we have Presidential staffing coming from 678, 700, 998”, he said.
In his earnest view "Ghana cannot go beyond aid when we continue to pile up expenditures on the government budget, on the national purse. It is not possible".
