Stop Emptying Septic Tank Pipes Into The Drainage System - Council
The Manhyia Sub-Metropolitan Council, has issued a stern warning to residents in the area who have connected their septic tank pipes to main drainage systems, to put a stop to the illegal practice as it posed a health hazard to the people.

Mr Eric Gyasi, the Environmental Health Officer, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), after inspecting some of the septic tanks at Ash-Town in Kumasi, said they had intensified efforts to apprehend and prosecute offenders.

He said the disturbing practice allowed faecal matter into the drainage system, which was constructed to enhance sanitation and not to dispose of faecal matter.

What made the situation more dangerous, he said, was the fact that during the rainy seasons, the drains got flooded and emptied into the main Owabi Headworks, where water was treated and supplied for consumption by most residents in the Metropolis.

“The Environmental Health Office is waging a full-scale war to stem those bad practices for the safety of residents in the sub-metropolitan area”, he said.

They had begun the processes of disconnecting illegal pipes from the septic tanks to protect the drainage system from being contaminated.
